Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has awarded a $285 million (AED 1.046 billion) engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to a joint venture between NMDC Infra and Lantania Aguas. The consortium will develop the Fujairah I Independent Water Producer (IWP) project, a major seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) facility located at the Port of Fujairah.
Key Operational Data:
Production Capacity: The SWRO plant will deliver a contracted output of 60 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of potable water.
Strategic Storage: The facility includes dedicated water storage capacity equivalent to 18 hours of production to ensure supply resilience.
Joint Venture Execution: The project will be delivered by Lantania NMDC Water, a joint platform formed after NMDC Infra acquired a 51% stake in Spain's Lantania Aguas.
Delivery Timeline: Construction covers civil works, process systems, and commissioning, with a targeted completion timeline of 30 months.
Market Context:
As EtihadWE's second desalination project developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, this facility is critical to scaling the UAE's energy-efficient water infrastructure and supporting long-term national water security goals.
